Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Mayer Solar is seeking an experienced and licensed Master Electrician to serve in a critical in-office role supporting our growing solar installation operations. This is not a field installation position — you will be the primary electrical authority in our office, fielding technical questions from field crews, managing and mentoring a team of electricians, ensuring all jobs are properly tied out and closed, and upholding the highest standards of code compliance across every project. A strong background in solar photovoltaic systems — including battery storage and backup installations — is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Field & Technical Support

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for field electricians needing on-the-spot technical guidance, code interpretation, or troubleshooting assistance
  • Answer questions related to NEC code compliance, solar interconnections, battery system wiring, load calculations, and AHJ-specific requirements
  • Review and approve wiring diagrams, single-line drawings, and system schematics submitted by field teams
  • Coordinate with inspectors and utilities on technical electrical matters as needed

Team Management

  • Manage, supervise, and mentor a team of journeyman and apprentice electricians
  • Assign work, monitor performance, and conduct technical coaching sessions
  • Ensure all team members are operating within license scope and following company safety protocols
  • Assist in hiring, onboarding, and evaluating electrical staff

Job Closeout & Compliance

  • Oversee and ensure the accurate and timely closeout (tie-out) of all electrical jobs upon project completion
  • Verify that all permits, inspections, and final sign-offs are completed in accordance with applicable codes and company standards
  • Review as-built documentation and confirm accuracy before project close
  • Maintain detailed records of completed work, open permits, and outstanding inspections
  • Identify and resolve any discrepancies or deficiencies discovered during job reviews

Solar & Battery Systems

  • Provide expertise on solar PV system design, installation standards, and performance expectations
  • Support field teams on battery energy storage system (BESS) installations including Sonnen, Enphase, Tesla Powerwall, SolarEdge, and similar platforms
  • Stay current on evolving battery backup codes, interconnection rules, and utility-specific requirements across service territories
  • Review battery installation scopes and flag any compliance or safety concerns prior to dispatch

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Active Master Electrician license (Texas license required; multi-state preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on electrical experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management capacity
  • Demonstrated knowledge of solar PV systems, grid-tied interconnections, and battery energy storage installation
  • Strong command of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and Texas state electrical statutes
  • Experience overseeing permit processes and coordinating with AHJs
  • Excellent communication skills — able to translate complex technical issues into clear direction for field teams
  • Comfortable working in an office-based role while managing remote field staff

Preferred

  • NABCEP PV Installation Professional or Associate certification
  • Experience with Sonnen, Enphase, Tesla Powerwall, SolarEdge, or Franklin WH battery platforms
  • Familiarity with Texas utility interconnection processes (Oncor, AEP, CenterPoint, etc.)
  • Prior experience in a solar company, electrical contracting firm, or EPC environment
  • Proficiency with project management or CRM platforms (e.g., HubSpot, monday.com, or similar)

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Technical authority and sound electrical judgment
  • Leadership and team accountability
  • Attention to detail and commitment to code compliance
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple open jobs simultaneously
  • Proactive communication with internal teams, field crews, and AHJs
  • Problem-solving mindset with a focus on field-level practicality
