Low Voltage Technician (LEB) — Commercial & Residential

About the job

I run Velara, a low-voltage shop in the Portland metro. We do networking, structured cabling, smart home, AV, and access control. Luxury homes on one end, multi-site commercial rollouts on the other. The work is clean and I'm picky about it. I'm looking to add a licensed tech to the crew.

The role

You'd be running jobs on your own, both residential and commercial. Show up, read the scope, do the work, leave it looking right. I won't be standing over your shoulder, so you've got to be someone who can take a job from start to finish without hand-holding.

Some of the work is mine. Some comes through other integrators I know, so I can help keep you busy beyond just Velara's jobs.

What you'd be doing

Commercial and multi-site

• Pulling cable, rack and stack
• ID and labeling
• Mounting and provisioning APs
• Overnight and after-hours cutovers
• Retail, multifamily, and similar sites

Residential and smart home

• Cat6/6A and fiber: pull, terminate, test
• UniFi gear: switches, APs, gateways, racks, tidy cable management
• Wi-Fi 7 installs
• Access control, cameras, AV, smart home
• Starlink and ISP handoffs

Who I'm looking for

You need a current Oregon LEB (Class B limited energy) license. That's the one thing I can't budge on. Past that:

• You can run resi and commercial jobs solo
• Solid fundamentals: terminations, testing, reading plans, clean finish work
• Your own hand tools and a reliable way to get to sites
• Valid Oregon driver's license and a decent driving record
• Set up as a 1099 contractor, or able to get set up
• Reliable, and you carry yourself well in a client's home or business

Nice to have, but I won't hold it against you if you don't:

• A Class A (LEA) license. I don't do LEA work day to day, but having it on the crew opens up jobs I could hand you.
• Commercial rollout experience: retail, multifamily, overnight cutovers
• Time on UniFi, Lutron, Savant, or Control4
• Fiber termination and fusion splicing
