The Journeyman Electrician plans, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment by performing the following duties.

• Plan new or modify installations to minimize waste of materials.
• Provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
• Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or following diagrams or blueprints.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble and install electrical conduits. Pull wiring through conduits. Splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps. Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
• Install of control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels. Connect power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and install grounding leads.
• Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, multi meter, voltmeter and oscilloscope.
• Observe functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement. Repair faulty equipment or systems.
• Communicate and interact directly with the customer, informing the customer of unexpected or additional repairs and determining customer needs.
• Ensure completed work meets quality control standards.
