Plant Electrician

Overview

Under general direction, performs skilled electrical, instrumentation, and control-system work to support the safe and reliable operation of water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and related infrastructure. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, tests, repairs, and replaces energized equipment and circuits, including conduit systems, feeders, branch circuits, panel boards, transformers, disconnects, variable frequency drives, backup generators, SCADA components, and related electrical systems in accordance with applicable national, state, and local electrical codes. Evaluates electrical systems, identifies maintenance needs, and recommends equipment upgrades, repairs, and modifications. Coordinates with electrical and mechanical contractors on new equipment installations and facility improvements. Supports planning, modification, design, installation, and calibration of instrumentation, SCADA control systems, and electrical systems; maintains spare parts inventory; and provides guidance and training to staff on the operation and maintenance of electrical and electronic instrumentation equipment.

Duties

• Oversee and troubleshoot and repair 110 and 480-voltage alternating current equipment.
• Obtain measurements and readings using electrical and mechanical testing instruments, including digital multi-meters, meggers, amp meters, ohm meters, and phase rotation meters.
• Oversee and perform a variety of other maintenance tasks, such as electrical preventative maintenance, lock-out/tag-out, disconnecting and removing motors, and responding to emergencies.
• Coordinate maintenance work with other sections, contractors and engineers; estimate time, materials and equipment required for repairs; examine various electrical systems and make recommendations for new equipment, repairs and modifications.
