EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Works in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local building and electrical codes. Plans layout, installs and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and direct digital control (DDC) equipment, and troubleshoots faults. Responds to emergency calls as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans new or modified installations and repairs to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.

Prepares sketches showing the location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed or replaced in compliance with applicable codes and regulations before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring. Estimates costs associated with installation and repairs.

Coordinates work with other tradesmen, and provides guidance to helpers and unskilled or semi-skilled laborers.

Connects wiring to lighting fixtures, power equipment, HVAC units, appliances, and other items. Uses proper wiring pipe bending and splicing techniques to install conduit, wire mold, Greenfield conduits, wire nuts, crimps, and other associated items.

Installs or replaces control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.

Troubleshoots and locates defects in electrical systems, fire systems, DDC, central clock and bell systems, machinery, and equipment. Tests continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components. Repairs faulty equipment or systems.

Conducts maintenance inspections and observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
