BUILDING MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN

General Definition of Work

Performs responsible skilled work in the maintenance, repair, modification, and installation of electrical systems in City buildings; performs related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision of the Building Maintenance Supervisor. Work directives are issued to building maintenance technicians and other city staff when performing work on electrical lines and appurtenances.

Essential Functions/Duties

Manages all activities of electrical maintenance; performs installation of electrical wiring and equipment in City buildings; investigates problems involving electrical systems and recommends corrective actions.

Prepares estimates and material lists for wiring jobs based on job requirements, plans, and specifications; performs routine inspection and maintenance of electrical systems in City buildings.

Keeps accurate daily records and reports regarding work performed, materials used, and system status.

Assists other skilled workers in a variety of assignments such as carpentry, plumbing, and painting activities as required; instructs and trains subordinate personnel.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of all standard practices, tools, terminology, and safety precautions of the electrical trade.
• Complete knowledge of the use and characteristics of electrical materials and equipment.
• Ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans, or specifications.
• Ability to follow oral or written instructions and complete daily reports.
• Some knowledge of the materials, methods, and techniques of building construction.
• Ability to plan work related to electrical lines and appurtenances.
