Electrician (Skilled Trade Specialist II)

Nature of Work

The main purpose of this position is to perform journey level electrical work in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and standard practices or rules governing the electrical trade. The duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following: installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical equipment such as ballasts, cable, conduit boxes, conduit tubing, control systems, coils, electronic signage, fans, fluorescent and incandescent units, fuses, generators, high mast light poles, outlets, panels, relays, switches, navigational lights, transformers, wiring and roadway lighting systems, and emergency standby systems. Work may include other maintenance duties as assigned.

This is maintenance work requiring physical exertion performed either outdoors under all weather conditions or inside an MDOT building. On some assignments, employees may be required to move objects weighing over 50 pounds and may also be required to work on equipment located on high poles or other elevated locations, and/or perform their job in cramped quarters in buildings or underground. The employee may also provide additional support for carpentry, locksmithing, masonry, painting, welding and/or HVAC tasks with co-workers as needed.
